Out with the old, in with the new...

If someone had told me when I bought my Jeep my next car would be a minivan, I would have probably fallen over. I never thought I'd see the day. But here it is... I bought the Jeep in 2000 when it was two years old and they had just discontinued the body type. I had totalled my previous car the day after Christmas on my way home from work in Charlotte, NC so it was time to make my very first car purchase on my own. Fortunately, I had the insurance $ from the wrecked car and had paid attention the last time when my Dad taught me how to haggle for the best price. I did a great job and used my Dad's techniques (minus the yelling and pen throwing). Thanks Dad! I have loved this car ever since and when Eva was born, I had no problem with her car seat alone in the middle of the back. However, Jack's birth has complicated things. Now the car seats had to be by the windows. Now I no longer felt safe with my kids in the back on major streets.
Years ago there was a commercial for a minivan where a little kid asked if you loved them enough to drive a minivan. I thought it was funny at the time but now I see their point. I always thought I'd just get an SUV with a third row of seats, and our other car is just that, but those without kids don't realize why that doesn't work. When you have car seats in, you have to actually remove the car seat to get into the back row. That means only the four of you can be in the car. Also, doors that open out instead of sliding make errands so much more difficult when trying to get the kids and the stroller back in the car. I finally realized that I needed a minivan and after some coaxing from Jared, we took the plunge and I traded in my beloved Jeep. I'm a fan of this light blue color because it's the same color as the one my parents drove me around in in the 80s and I thought that would have some sort of symmetry. Jared absolutely loves driving this car, by the way. It our "domestic bliss" trophy.

Congratulations for joining the minivan club! You really have to be a parent to understand how much more practical they are then other vehicles. I've been driving mine for almost 8 years now. Crazy!
