In case you can't see it in the top picture of the four of us, we are wearing our official road trip attire, Team Rieckewald jerseys that I had made last year. You would be surprised at how much a family uniform boosts morale for a long trip. That picture was taken in Atlanta after nearly 13 hours in the car and we're still smiling- with 6 more hours driving to do! Actually, the kids are great in the car and with all the things you need for small children, flying is much more of a hassle, not to mention much more expensive!
So, we packed the kids into the minivan and headed on down to my parent's house in FL. My parents live in a resort on the panhandle and it's a great place to vacation, plenty of stuff for kids and adults. There are also four golf courses which is a requirement for Jared. When this was my parent's vacation house, before they lived here full time, Jared and I came down pre-kids for a week and had probably the best trip of all time. I also used to bring my friends down here to party when I was single. Now, this is still perfect for us because of all the kids down here and activities for them to participate in as well as my parents to babysit so Jared and I can go out for dinner, dancing and fun at the bars. And we can do it all on their golf cart without leaving the premises!
We stopped in Atlanta the first night of the trip to stay with our friends Kristin and Daniel. This is the second year we've been able to see them on our way down. They have two kids as well but the furry kind. Eva loves being licked in the face by two very cheerful puppies! She also really liked wearing Kristin's boots as you can see below:
