I had a lot of people ask me if I was prepared to deal with a jealous toddler when the new baby arrived. Turns out, I didn't have to worry, Eva is totally in love with her little brother and has been from day one. She always asks to "play with her little brother" and
announces she's "holding his hand." She smooches him every chance she gets and frequently tells me "Don't drop Baby Jack!" while I'm carrying him down the stairs. When I'm changing his diaper she will hold his head in her hands and say"Don't worry Baby Jack, Mommy is just changing your diaper" and she tells him "I love you" several times a day. When we are out running errands and people want to poke their heads in the stroller to get a look at the new baby, Eva freaks out. She jumps up and down yelling "No, that's my baby! That's my baby!" and looks at me as if to say "Do something!" while she positions herself between the curious stranger and Jack. It's actually pretty cute and the regulars at Starbucks now understand to stay clear of the stroller. Eva has become super obsessed with her Daddy since Jack arrived, she follows him around like his shadow the moment he gets home from work. Jared jokes he feels like he's married to Eva now because she's all over him and I'm constantly tending to the baby :) Eva has been a little hostile towards me, not so much during the day but once her Dad is home. I think it bothers her I have to hold the baby so much. She has relaxed a lot though this week and has stopped yelling at me to "Quit smiling at me!" or "Stop smooching me!" which is nice. We seem to be sinking back into a normal routine.
I took this picture of the kids today about 5 minutes before Jack had a poop explosion that shot out of his diaper and all over both of us.
Ahhh... the joys of parenthood.
