Not quite. I used to catch and hatch caterpillars every year when I was little and I found a "bug cage" almost exactly like the one I had in Target. Of course we have TONS of tent caterpillars here but those turn into moths. The green caterpillars are the ones that turn into butterflies. We take lots of walks and looked for the green ones to no avail. So, Eva and I caught 3 of the brown caterpillars and took them home. All three immediately made cocoons and 3 weeks later, all 3 hatched! We got to watch them fly out of the cage and dry their wings. Not a beautiful butterfly but them same idea. Eva thought it was cool.

You can buy a butterfly hatching set at Toys R Us. Got one for Charlie and he loved it. You place the order for the caterpillars when you're ready and they arrive in the mail and they go through the whole process in a jar so the kids can watch and then pretty butterflies hatch. It's pretty cool.
